THE PIECE, ON RECORD

THE ARGUMENT · BALANCE, DIAL SIDE
We put the mechanism where it can be watched.
Built with Omnis as a spati’horloger instrument — a vessel for new space-times. A polished steel arch suspends a free-sprung balance above a sector dial cut in three textures: a guilloché helix, sunburst anthracite, radial black.
An automatic engine of exploration under a domed sapphire, dressed in a lume that holds its own against the dark. One hundred numbered pieces; the first run is gone.
We drew it early, and it shows: nothing on this dial sits where a watch usually puts it. The hours are pushed high, the seconds low, and the balance — the part most watches hide behind a caseback — is the first thing you see. That is still the argument. Watched rather than read, the time stops being a number and becomes something happening in front of you.
THE TRIBUTE · A SHIP FROM SCIENCE FICTION
We have never said which ship.
The Neoma Star Nero is an asymmetrical space-time-machine watch, designed by Black Corner with Omnis.
The Star Nero is a tribute to a legendary science-fiction exploration spaceship.
You have already guessed which one.
Saying it out loud would only make it smaller. The tribute is in the object rather than in the caption, and a watch that explains what it means has stopped being worth looking at.
THE DIAL · HELIX, SUNBURST, RADIAL BLACK
Three textures, two counters, one arch.
An exposed balance bridge, drawn as a polished steel arch, is suspended over the sector dial. Behind it, a helix guilloché ground carries two counters: the sunray steel hours and minutes at twelve o’clock, the matte black radial small seconds at six.
The balance is free-sprung, which means its rate is set by weights on the wheel itself rather than by a regulator index, and it runs at 21,600 vibrations an hour under the arch. F28-12, automatic, forty-two hours from full. It sits on the dial side because that is the side you are looking at.

THE CASEBACK · EDITION MARK
The edition names itself once, at the back.
NEOMASTAR NEROEXPLORERS 81 OF 100OMNIS x BLACK CORNER
The edition has a name, and the hundred casebacks carry it with their number underneath. This one is eighty-one. Nothing on the dial says so. You find it when the watch comes off, which is the right place for a thing like that to live.
QUESTIONS · THE ONES THAT COME BACK
Two answers and one refusal.
- Can I still buy a Star Nero?
- No. The edition was a hundred numbered pieces and the run sold out. We do not hold stock, we do not take orders for it, and we do not broker resales; if one appears on the secondary market it has nothing to do with us. What we can do is tell you when we make something in the same spirit.
- What does the caseback engraving EXPLORERS 81 OF 100 mean?
- EXPLORERS is the edition’s name, engraved on every caseback with that piece’s number under it. The watch photographed here is the eighty-first of the hundred. The name is not printed anywhere on the dial; the caseback is the only place the edition identifies itself.
- Which spaceship is the Star Nero a tribute to?
- A legendary science-fiction exploration ship. That is as far as we go. It is the one specification we do not publish, and the guessing has always been part of the piece.
